These are by Robert Lawson. I don't know, but I would think he is English (this is from the first edition, and White was relatively unknown in the US).

Bill Peet was still a great illustrator and animator. You can tell that his Kentuckiana roots played a big role in how he drew those Medieval English forests.
I've heard Bill Peet's vision for THE JUNGLE BOOK was more mystical, serious and, um, better, than the final product. I wouldn't be surprised if his original ideas for SWORD were better too.

ReplyDeleteI agree the Disney movie was awful. In fact all of the original fairy tales are better then most of the Disney movies.
