"Stuff is eaten by dogs, broken by family and friends, sanded down by the wind, frozen by the mountains, lost by the prairie, burnt off by the sun, washed away by the rain. So you are left with dogs, family, friends, sun, rain, wind, prairie and mountains. What more do you want?"

Bird flu?
Probably not. But Steve's got something of a nasty respiratory thing to deal with. He sends his apologies for not posting and asked that I spread this to everyone.
Um, maybe that is not the best way to put it. Convey the news, I mean.

Hi Steve
Hope you are back on flight path for a warm, soft touchdown at Christmas - you take care
Seriously, Bird Flu is no joke here in Europe - we are all on tenterhooks for the rest of the fowling season ( which has not really started yet because the weather has been so mild, until the recent icy , foggy spell)
We had a major outbreak about 20 miles from here, last year , and it was disasterous for farmers, game rearers, and shoots alike. There has been a recent alert for a possible outbreak in a flock in Haute Marne ,France last weekend , about 300 miles away ( as the duck / geese fly ) so fingers crossed - at least ( selfishly ) until 31st Jan .
None taken - as none intended- mention of "light pneumonia" sounds a lot worse than "something of a nasty respiratory thing "
Hope you are getting better, and are well on the mend now, and keeping warm!! - Talisker 12 yr old ( or any good Malt ) is good for chest infections ( I am reliably informed!! ).
Bloody hell, steve. Light pneumonia?!? No fun. Hugs from England, and get well soon. I speak with feeling; I had viral pneumonia a long time ago, which coincided with trying to train a haggard female sparrowhawk. It got to the point where it was literally me or the bird. I decided to live, and gave the sparrowhawk away.
Happy Christmas, much love to you, Libby and the menagerie..... xx
In the interest of accruing data about "nasty respiratory stuff" I report that my version of this is allergy to wind-driven fungusy dust. I had it last in summer but we've no snow now for weeks and the temps have been above freezing in the daytime. Claritin, Tylenol (neck entirely paralyzed and tender) and finally a corticosteroid called "Fluonase" uprooted the damn stuff.
But time to just lie there and think is not a bad thing. Even dreamless sleep every afternoon is not a bad thing. No light without shadows, right?
So now we've had the shadow, the Sun Gong is once again hoisted to the top of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and it's time to begin fertilizing the houseplants again.

Apologies as needed for any offense taken on the bird flu mention!
Matt's joke Johnny-- just bad flu followed by light pneumonia, receding slowly. Happy Christmas to you and yours!

Get well soon Steve. I once had a hamster that got pneumonia. It died.
Seriously, best wishes.
