The Alpha Environmentalist sent this pic of his crazy South African friend Neels and his tame seven-foot black mamba, teaching a ranger course. Somehow, the "No Smoking" sign is hilarious in this context.
Jonathan adds: "You could mention that he was bitten by a mamba on an episode of Mark O'Shea's Big Adventure, and nearly died. Back on his feet the next day. Obviously didn't make him nervous around mambas."
Also note the Jonathan Kingdon poster behind...

The world "tame" and "mamba" probably do not belong in the same sentence. A bit like "juggling" and "chainsaws" if you ask me. Of course, there IS a difference between living and longevity.

My sentiments exactly.
On the other hand Africa's legendary snake man, C J P Ionides, handled snakes likethat and lived to a ripe old age.
I used to know a "gentleman" who handled his 2 spitting cobras in a similar manner. I saw pictures of the pair cruising around his neck and shoulders....He also made a habbit of free handling his huge female gaboon viper. Shudder.
These things make us very care full
