John Noble Wilford has an expanded treatment on isolated primitive tribal groups that I briefly posted on last week. Apparently there are about 100 left, half of which are in Amazonia. Many of the rest are in Papua New Guinea.As I said said before, it's astonishing to me that there are this many left at this late date.

And then there's the Tasaday of the Philippines, who attracted all sorts of attention in the 1970's as a previously uncontacted, Stone Age tribe. It all turned out to be a hoax. The "Tasaday" were members of ordinary, known tribes who posed as primitive tribesmen for pay.
