"Stuff is eaten by dogs, broken by family and friends, sanded down by the wind, frozen by the mountains, lost by the prairie, burnt off by the sun, washed away by the rain. So you are left with dogs, family, friends, sun, rain, wind, prairie and mountains. What more do you want?"

(Early) Quote of the day
"I like reading; I am especially fond of reading old books in poor condition by odd people." (English gun writer Diggory Hadoke, courtesy of reader Tom Condon)
I'm torn as to whether I prefer Datus Proper's name to Diggory Hadoke's - well never mind, both of them are favorites. That particular sentence comes from Hadoke's wonderful book "Vintage Guns for the Modern Shot" in a section subtitled "A proud history of Practical Eccentricity".
