Dog Quote

"Dogs are like people. Not too literally, of course, but in the sense that the dog population contains a virtually infinite range of individuals – distinctive in physical structure, temperament and past experience. As a group, they are more loyal, more forgiving, more generous, yet less neurotic than people. Our relationship with each of them will be different; and it will be dynamic and change every day. We can make many generalizations about dogs, just as we can about people; but we must be thankful, rather than upset, when something works with one dog and doesn't with another. It is this powerful range of individual variation that makes bird dogs of sustaining interest for a lifetime."

Nice to see that Daniel is reading the best books on bird dogs... "Pointing Dogs - their training and handling" by Earl Crangle is a classic.

Also recommend Jack Harper's "Bird Dogs and Field Trials" - now out of print.

Nice to see that Daniel is quoting the 'classics'. Pointing Dogs - their training and handlingby Earl Crangle is one such classic.

Also recommend Jack Harper's Bird Dogs and Field Trials - out of print but it can still be found.

Just started reading 'The Dog Who Knew Too Much' by Spencer Quinn. He refers to dogs amongst people as 'the nation within the nation'.

The human-dog relationship is complex, and it is deeply intertwined with our own identity and also the identity we wish to show others about ourselves.

The middle class life is supposedly symbolized by a nice house in the suburbs with a white picket fence and a golden retriever. Lots of young men own bulldog-type dog, even the really defective bulldogs, to show off their masculinity.

And even more sophisticated dog people are not immune to mixing up identity and the dogs we own. Look at how many fights exist over dog shows and working trials. Look at how many breed never would have existed had not a group fanciers within an established breed become ticked off about something (usually not winning dog shows).

The dog and human relationship is quite complex, but it's nothing compared to dog people. At the risk of alienating most of my readership, I find that so many dog people are just nuts. As in the kind who need medical treatment.

Dogs can bring out the best in people, but they also can bring out the worst.

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring-it was peace.
Brilliantly designed website for showing pet love. Good efforts.
