Camels (and Other Beasts of Burden)

I am a big fan of camels-- have ridden them in Central Asia, drunk their milk and fermented milk (shubat) and heated with wood they brought to the apartment.



With that in mind may I recommend this site, a celebration of all things camel.

I certainly prefer them to a mechanical mule.



As James Howard Kunstler says : "Unlike machines, horses can reproduce themselves".

And live off the land, not petroleum...

    Thanks for the camel photos Steve! I might have to add that site to my list...we're considering llamas as a livestock possibility but still have to do some research on how commercially viable they are. I need to have at least one thing in my life that earns its keep!!

    Dear Mr Bodio,

    I just found your blogg today. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed Eagle Dreams.

    I was given a copy after I returned to the US from a short trip in Kazakhstan. I rode with a Kazakh friend in a box car from Tukelbus(sp?) in the south to Astana. Our trip took five days and I loved the country and what i learned of the people.

    I have never flown an eagle but have flown a few different hawks in Maryland on game.

    Reading Eagle Dreams was a trip back to a land I love, Kazakhstan and a country I have yet to see, Mongolia.

    Glad you enjoyed it, Pat. I haven't been north to Astana yet, nor east, where I really want to go, only down by Almaty. Hope to get there!
