Terence Wright's Cog

Recently Terence Wright's 12 year old Gyr- Prairie tiercel Cog starred with partner Loki the lurcher in a video here. Yesterday he was killed on a jack by a coyote before Loki and Terence could get to him. He will be missed; he was one of the best hare falcons I have ever seen, and an engaging character.

With Warren's tazis, 100% granddogs:

With Terence and Loki last January, and with me:

Lately the suburban coyotes around Albuquerque have become unnervingly bold. Greg Rabourn's Gyr Saker female was also killed, there have been several more incidents, and they don't even back down from humans. They are shyer down here where they are hunted. Some lessons there-- and as one falconer said, maybe time to get some dogs that can kill a coyote!

Good Lord. What a horror. A great bird, well trained and loved. Condolences.

We just happen to know some dogs that kill coyotes!

A falconer in northern NM lost his native grown peregrine to a golden eagle yesterday, another casualty to the food chain.

Or have some berkutchi fly birds that wouldn't have issues defending kills from coyotes...

Once again, I'm sorry to hear of this - I keep picturing Cog on Steve's head ...

Speaking of fearless Coyote - we've got them here in Indiana - they've become urban dwellers and are smart enough to tip the big trash dumpsters that the city doles out to households - my neighbors hear them at night, but don't believe me when I tell them they are coyote - they think in terms of "Wylie" and say "Oh well, poor things, we've taken over their homes. Ah well, wait until they begin to put two and two together once enough small dogs and cats have disappeared ...
