"Preppy"?

Reader  Matthew remarks in comments below on my being such a "preppie" in my youth. Well, yeah, but life goes on and reality intrudes. Children become unexpected adults.  And no matter how you strive, "Golden lads and girls all must/ As chimney- sweepers, come to dust..."

What epiphany took place between 1 and 2.3.4.5?

Between the photos? No epiphanies, especially when young-- just leaving home at 17 and going my own often stupid but sometimes educational way... any ideas were figured out long after interesting mistakes.

Living in the west changed me, and widowhood, and even falconry, which took me to remotest Asia.

Don't ask for what you might get, good or bad. You are usually best off not anticipating much... if you live you will figure it out.

My Ma was always taking such photos like that first one of me, too--being dressed up and dragged to church, a funeral, or wedding of some relative's--they ARE NOT representitive of reality, I can assure you. As I would immediately assume this 1st Bodio photo was NOT likely representitive, either. I realize I could be wrong, however.....L.B.

That one WAS a formal portrait, but I do love my old tweed jackets, two of which date back to about then!

My 21 year old son looks remarkably like 70's falconer Steve. Replete with hair, plaid shirt, and jean jacket. He is walking in the footsteps of R.C.A at Beloit College.

Like you, Steve I used to be young and skinny and had lots of hair. But I got over it.

You have never changed, you were just determined to follow the road your brain had planned on...
