A Whole Lotta Links

Ina time with a few deadlines and a LOT of visitors and socializing, fun but exhausting, posting may seem scant. But what really suffers is posts full of "Lookitthat!" links. Though everyone seems to enjoy them, they are usually the last things I get to when I set my priorities. With no further ado...

Everyone is doubtless wondering how much they would have to pay for a nice side by side 12 bore ejector Holland and Holland Royal if they were to buy a new one.Well, here is one,  the specs and the bill. Good luck, unless you are a Russian oligarch or a Saudi oil prince. To say that it costs CONSIDERABLY more than my house and my car plus all my guns is still understating it.

New York Times runs an article saying wolves are not holy ecological heroes but players in a  complicated system. Refreshing; HT Valerius Geist., who knows more than most.

UPDATE: I spent from 4:30 PM to five minutes ago (7 PM)  putting in five more links with commentary, plus photos-- I AM slow. Computer was being slower and refusing to preview so I finally saved and got out.

"Save" didn't. As I purge my files of links to specific stories as I go, I have no idea where they are. One, the possibility that eastbound humans did not cross on a"bridge" but lived in Beringia for as much as 10,000 years, will be covered by Reid. I can find one other easily I think. But I swear despite my obsessiveness I will not waste time doing links if whatever secret black hole ate them continues. Life is already short ...

But I had to recover this. Annie Hocker sent a link to this "luminous" photo essay on the Scots Doomen-- in Mother Jones of all places. The text is useless but then almost all writing on pigeons is, and the photos are glorious; the best are like portraits by Dutch painters or even Rembrandt..

Ah, but that Holland & Holland is wrong- single rather than double triggers with a straight grip?
I'd take double triggers for six figures American. And, for me, a Prince of Wales grip. Too Americanized to appreciate the straight grip.

And it is heavy. Not for the English trade and maybe not for the American; my guess is Oligarchs. You wouldn't believe the gaudy ads, full page, in Russian lifestyle mags, not excluding "staid" Purdey...

PS Come shoot mine this season if there are birds. As good at a minute fraction of the cost, courtesy of Ron.
