Amazing viper

From Anne D. I had seen still photos but they did not remotely do it justice.

INCREDIBLE! Is this not a hoax? Sorry, but with all the faked stuff on the internet now, you never can be sure......If evolution continues in this vein, and considering the available prey base, I could see giant snakes developing on their tails, or crocodilians developing on their noses, appendages that were very similar to, say, a hundred dollar bill!....L.B.

I have seen black and white photos in a scientific publication so I would say it is dead serious. And not unprecedented-- think of angler fish, the tongues of alligator snappers, and possibly the bright tails of some young pit vipers. It is a sort of mimicry, not unusual in itself-- what is rare is the DETAIL.

Yes, it is incredible! For someone who doesn't like spiders, and tends to stomp on every one they see, they better be extra careful where this species is found! And for someone with both arachnophobia AND ophidiophobia, the sight of this serpent would likely send them into convulsions!...L.B.
