Running and Hunting

A Scientific American blogger wonders if we run in such things as marathons because once, we ran down other animals.

Elizabeth Thomas got there years ago.

HT Walter Hingley for the SciAm link.

Bernd Heinrich (a hunter, naturalist and hard-core distance runner) devoted a whole book to this subject: Why We Run.

In the link that I posted above the animal is chased for 8 hours. The next time I am hunting and feel like I am on a death march I will think of the clip. endurance and phenomenal tracking skills win out at the end of the day. Its not hard to see the link between marathon running and persistence running.
Sorry for the atrocious spelling in my first post.If you are a hunter who truly loves to hunt and respects your prey have a look at the video. You can also find it on You Tube by doing a search for persistence hunting
